Pessoa Spurs Hexagonal Rowel

New to the range of the Pessoa Spurs with Hexagonal Rowel. Thankfully with the latest rule changes to the equestrian sport when competing. Metalab the manufactures of what was the Pessoa Spur, were quick to react and made sure all their spurs reduce the risk of a horse becoming injured and also marked by a spur.  With its new and unique blunt rocky wheel, the rowel is kind but effective.

Non marking. The spur still allows the rider to apply a little pressure to the horse that will gently encourage the horse to move along. The blunt sides of the rowels gently rolls across the horse, but thanks to the rocky shape, applies more effective pressure than that of a round rowel. The rowel is free to move and will spin naturally.

The spur also has a rubber coating that will help prevent the spur from moving, whilst also protecting your expensive riding boots.

How do horse riding spurs work?

Horse riding spurs are designed to allow a rider to discreetly transfer signals and commands via heel movement when riding. A rider applies pressure to the side of the belly with the spur and as a result encourages the horse to move on, change direction etc. As the action can often not be seen by any spectators, it is sometimes very astonishing to watch a horse change direction with what looks like no instruction from the rider whatsoever. This is especially more visible in dressage riding.

As spurs come in many forms, you will learn to know that different shanks, will have different effects on your horse. Some spurs will be made with a hammer head shank, some a round shank and others a rowel, all which work differently. It is down to you as a rider, to learn which spurs are more effectively on your horse. Please Note Spurs Are Not To Be Used As A Form Of Punishment.

How do Pessoa Spurs Reduce Pressure Points?
Pressure points caused by spurs can be painful to a rider. As a result this can often cause sores on the Achilles tendon area. If this then rubs on the zip, the rider can be in severe discomfort.

Pessoa was an innovator of the original offset branch on spurs. A standard that now many companies have followed. Having an inner and outer branch to a spur reduces the pressure to the inside of the riders foot when riding, compared to spurs that have branches of equal size.

Another original design was the offset eyelet for the spur straps. Known as the “S” eyelet design. This design prevents the spur straps from slipping and therefore prevents the spurs from moving on the riders boots.
